The first image is a sample of what I did the other day, punching circles and blossoms from random paint chips I had lying around.

After gluing down all the circles, I closed my eyes and chose a flower for each one. After I had them all glued down, I compiled them into a huge PSD and created three-color palettes based on the flowers and circles.

I’ve been randomly choosing a palette every couple of days since then, and creating a 500 x 500 image (mostly based on photos I’ve taken) inspired by (and limited to!) its palette.

Here are my first five.

Sam’s been making me watch Ultraman— the original series. It’s really something.
This is Gesura, the monster originally from South America who is, theoretically, the protector of cacao beans. Well, this is a baby gesura.
If I had a spirit animal, this would be it. If I had two, one would be a gesura, and the other would be a magpie.

I was recently reminded that I never posted these, so here are my landscapes for Digital Illustration: we had to paint the same view in morning light and evening light. These drove me crazy with the tedium (my instructor claimed they’d be fun, but I found them more boring than anything) but as time passes I feel my fondness for them growing.

And here’s Cypraissus (and Apollo), the second half of my folklore assignment.
